Robust Compatible\nBlend of Poly(butylene carbonate-co-terephthalate)\nand Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) toward\na High Barrier Blown Film

Poly(butylene\nadipate-co-terephthalate)\n(PBAT)\nis the most frequently used biodegradable packaging material, while\npoly(butylene carbonate-co-terephthalate) (PBCT)\nis a recently developed biodegradable copolyester with high barrier\nand closed-loop recycling performance. In this work, the physical–chemical\nproperties of PBAT/PBCT blends, particularly the barrier performance,\nand their compatible mechanism have been thoroughly examined. The\nactivation energy calculations and molar weight evolutions showed\nthat PBAT/PBCT blends followed a reactive compatible mechanism. Therefore,\nwhen the blending mass ratios were between 40 and 60%, combining PBCT\nand PBAT improved the tensile strength and elongation at the break\nconcurrently. The cocrystal structure formation was aided by reactive\ncompatibility, as demonstrated by thermal characteristics, crystal\nstructure, and long period scale. Additionally, PBAT chain segment\ncrystallization was facilitated by PBCT acting as the nucleation site.\nUltimately, the barrier properties, fruit packaging experiment, and\nbacterial antiadhesion characteristic all illustrated that PBCT would\nenhance the use of PBAT in packaging films.
