Herein are reported the densities,\nviscosities, and speeds\nof sound of two-component mixtures of decane with <i>n</i>-alkylcyclohexanes (methyl, ethyl, <i>n</i>-propyl, <i>n</i>-butyl, <i>n</i>-pentyl, <i>n</i>-hexyl, <i>n</i>-heptyl, <i>n</i>-decyl, and <i>n</i>-dodecyl) and their corresponding excess molar volumes (<i>V</i>mE), excess speeds of sound (<i>c</i>E), excess isentropic compressibilities (ΚsE), and viscosity deviations (Δη). Monotonic\nincreases in mixture densities, viscosities, and speeds of sound were\nfound as the concentration of the component with the higher property\nvalue increased and as the temperature decreased. <i>V</i>mE’s, <i>c</i>E’s, <i>K</i>sE’s, and\nΔη’s ranged from −0.44 to 0.14 cm·mol–1, −1.4 to 16.7 m·s–1, −19.1 to 2.7 TPa–1, and −0.05 to\n0.35 mPa·s, respectively. For mole fractions of 0.5, the <i>n</i>-hexylcyclohexane/decane mixture had the smallest Δη\nof all the mixtures at 293.15 K. The signs of <i>V</i>mE and <i>K</i>sE were the same for each mixture, suggesting that the systems with\nreduced volumes were less compressible and the systems with enhanced\nvolumes were more compressible than the respective space taken up\nby the individual components. The <i>V</i>mE’s, <i>c</i>E’s, <i>K</i>sE’s, and Δη’s\nof the decane mixtures followed trends that are consistent with these <i>n</i>-alkylcyclohexanes mixtures with other linear alkanes.

Abstract

As the <i>n</i>-alkylcyclohexane\nsize increased, the mixture’s <i>V</i>mE’s and <i>K</i>sE’s decreased and their <i>c</i>E’s\nincreased at 293.15 K.
