Addressing Peshawar’s Smog Crisis: Environmental Causes, Media Influence, and Public Health Implications.docx
This study investigates the heightened smog levels in Peshawar, Pakistan, over a single day and night on November 10, examining both environmental factors and the role of media and government responses. Recent media reports claimed an Air Quality Index (AQI) of up to 522, while independent monitors recorded levels closer to 350. This discrepancy raised concerns about possible media exaggeration and its effects on public perception, trust, and policy focus. The paper explores the environmental causes of smog, health risks associated with high levels of particulate matter, and the impact of inconsistent AQI reporting. It concludes that transparent reporting, regulatory reforms, and responsible media practices are essential for public awareness and effective pollution control measures in Peshawar.
