Almacenamiento energético en acuíferos mediante sistemas de bombeo-inyección: aproximación al estudio del potencial en el norte de España

In a world driven by increasing energy demand and the transition to renewable sources, the search for efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions has become imperative. In this context, aquifers emerge as a promising and unconventional option for energy storage. The ability to transform surplus energy in periods of high generation in groundwater resources into an exploitable reserve presents an innovative perspective to address the challenges associated with the intermittency of renewable sources and the efficient management of energy supply and demand. In this paper, we will examine how energy storage in aquifers not only contributes to the stability of the electricity grid, but can also have significant impacts on climate change mitigation and the promotion of a more sustainable energy system. This paper presents a study of the potential for energy storage in aquifers as an alternative to conventional models. The work focuses on the aquifers of the limestone massifs of northern Spain, analysing the specific casuistry of the Poncebos-Caín area as a case study.
