Threatened saproxylic beetle species in tree hollows react more sensitively to surrounding landscape composition in central European managed forests than total species richness
The files in this dataset include research data of tree hollows in three Bavarian (Germany) state forestries/managed forest regions (BaySF forestries Ebrach, Fichtelberg, Kelheim). The three files "Region_data.xlsx" contain in the first column the ID of the tree hollow, the second column contains the number of saproxylic beetle species (species richness) found in the hollow, the third column contains the number of threatened saproxylic beetle species found in the hollow. The following eight columns contain the proportion of potentially suitable habitat, i.e., deciduous forest, at different radii (in meters) around the tree hollows ("habitat300" - "habitat5000"), the next four columns contain community-weighted means (CWM) of four dispersal-associated morphological traits, the next two columns contain parameters of local tree hollow characteristics ("size of the hollow entrance", "height of the entrance above ground"), and the last three columns contain the functional diversity indices functional richness (FRic), functional evenness (FEve), and functional dispersion (FDis). The file "Tree_hollows_spp.xlsx" contains in the first column the forest region (Ebrach, Fichtelberg, Kelheim), in the second column the ID of the tree hollow, and in the third column the saproxylic beetle species found in the hollow. Column four and five contain the number of individuals found in the respective hollow and the Red List status of the species according to the Red List of Germany (2021) or the Red List of Bavaria (2006). G = threatened to an unknown extent, VU = vulnerable, EN = endangered, CR = critically endangered.
