A 30 años de la conformación del MERCOSUR: desafíos y potencialidades

After 30 years of MERCOSUR's life, this article proposes a brief journey through its history, emphasizing the regional and international situation that the block is going through, highlighting some significant issues on the intergovernmental agenda, such as the MERCOSUR-EU Agreement, the common external tariff and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the progress made by the regional integration process is emphasized, pending issues are highlighted, not only as challenges but also as MERCOSUR's potentialities, focusing on enabling the countries that comprise it to be able to jointly and coordinate towards sustainable development. Thus, we think that beyond the criticism that may be made of the regional agreement, we must focus on the MERCOSUR that we have, and project the regional future based on it.
