Hydration and Health: A Study on Students of Mumbai

Abstract Water is extremely essential for the well-being and maintenance of one’s health. Lack of drinking an adequate amount of water through the day at regular intervals can lead to discomfort and manifest in the form of symptoms such as headache, tiredness, dizziness, etc. The objective of this study is to investigate current hydration trends among the youth in Mumbai and assess their potential health implication. A cross-sectional survey design was employed to analyze hydration patterns among young adults aged 18-25 years residing in Mumbai. The survey was conducted using a self-administrated structured questionnaire. A total of 317 responses were analyzed. The forms were divided into systematic sections such as demographic information, hydration patterns, health and symptoms. Statistical analysis was done by using Chi-square test analysis to compare various response parameters. The findings of the survey indicate that hydration levels are affected by factors like lifestyle and substitute beverage consumption. Replacing drinking water with sugary beverages leads to chronic health conditions which must be mitigated by drinking an adequate amount of water. The study confirms that individuals who track their water intake are more likely to maintain adequate levels of hydration. Hence, tracking water intake and prioritizing regular water consumption over other beverages is essential for good health
