Tokenising Intellectual Property Portfolios: A Scientific Foundation for Intangible Asset Transformation and Value Creation

This paper introduces a scientifically grounded framework for transforming intellectual property (IP) portfolios into tokenised digital assets, enabling innovators to unlock liquidity, attract investment, and reflect intangible value on balance sheets. Traditional IP valuation methods—though vital for assessing potential market utility—fail to capture the monetisable potential of such assets in real-time financial systems. By integrating traditional valuation, mathematical modelling, and blockchain-based tokenisation, the proposed model enables the conversion of IP into programmable, tradeable digital instruments. This process not only facilitates decentralised capitalisation but also allows IP to function as a dynamic economic asset in both corporate and startup ecosystems. Drawing on academic literature from economics, intellectual property, and blockchain domains, the paper presents a structured methodology while addressing legal, strategic, and operational implications. The result is a novel system for intangible asset management that bridges the gap between innovation and finance in the digital age.
