On the Correspondence Principle of Quantum Foam

A framework for modelling Quantum Foam as a sequence of homotopic, globally hyperbolic spacetimes converging to a limiting distributional structure at the Planck scale is introduced. The framework establishes a Correspondence Principle for quantum gravity, illustrating how classical spacetime geometry emerges from quantum fluctuations. A sequence of normalised Gaussian functions that extend the shift vector, which encodes localised perturbations and the contraction of the universe toward the Planck scale, serves as a sample model. The use of normalised Gaussian sequences ensures well-defined distributional products despite the theory’s inherent non-linearity. The volume expansion rate for an Eulerian observer is used as a proxy for the local Hubble parameter, characterising inflation effects. The local Hubble parameter will be huge at Planck scales, but scrubbed away in the transition from Planck scales to the observable macroscopic scales. It is further demonstrated that while the local volume expansion is non-zero, the averaged expansion is zero. The projected stress-energy tensor along the worldlines of Eulerian observers, shows significant fluctuations at the Planck scale. The Quantum Foam is characterised by an initial positive energy density followed by a rebounding negative energy density. The volume integral of the projected stress-energy along the flow of the evolution of the spacetime is shown to vanish, showing that the Quantum Foam does not inject net energy but fluctuates as around zero. This work bridges quantum and classical regimes, advancing the understanding of the fundamental nature, evolution, and measurable implications of spacetime, and provides a foundation for further exploration of quantum gravity and cosmology.
