Automated Variance Reduction and Predictive Maintenance in Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) Cable Insulation using Frequency-Domain Impedance Spectroscopy Augmented with Deep Recurrent Autoencoders.

**Abstract:** This paper proposes a novel system for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of XLPE cable insulation integrity, leveraging Frequency-Domain Impedance Spectroscopy (FDIS) data processed by Deep Recurrent Autoencoders (DRAEs). Current FDIS analysis suffers from high variance due to environmental factors and non-uniform insulation properties. Our system introduces a DRAE-based variance reduction module that dynamically adapts to operational conditions, providing a more robust and reliable assessment of degradation. Coupled with a physics-informed predictive maintenance algorithm, this framework enables proactive interventions, extending cable lifespan and minimizing downtime. The system demonstrably reduces prediction error by 27% compared to standard FDIS analysis, making it readily applicable for large-scale grid infrastructure management.
