Beyond Critiques
Beyond Critique: Bridging Amartya Sen’s Identity and Violencewith OwnviewismIntroduction: Why Identity Needs RethinkingIn his seminal work, Identity and Violence: The Illusion of Destiny, Amartya Sen critiques the dangerousreduction of human beings to a single, dominant affiliation—such as religion, ethnicity, or nationality. Heargues that these ―solitarist‖ views distort the plural reality of human life, and when weaponized by politicalactors, can catalyze conflict, sectarianism, and terrorism. His work is a vital philosophical intervention, calling for dialogue, pluralism, and freedom of identity choice.Yet, while Sen’s diagnosis is intellectually powerful, it stops short of offering tools for transformation. Heexplains why identity reductionism is dangerous but does not fully address how identities are formed, internalized, or healed. Here, Ownviewism offers a complementary and creative response. If Sen reveals the illusion of destiny,Ownviewism shows us how that illusion is programmed—and how it can be reprogrammed. Where Senemphasizes rational agency and ethical resistance, Ownviewism brings in emotional healing, perceptionalshifts, and subconscious transformation. It provides a toolkit for rehumanizing both individuals andsystems—offering what it calls the Ring of Peace and Human Mindset Programming (HMP).
