INTEGRATING AI AS AN EMERGING TECHNOLOGY IN THE 21ST CENTURY FOR THE TEACHING OF OLD TESTAMENT IN NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
As educational practices evolve in the 21st century, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a significant force in reshaping teaching and learning across disciplines. This paper examines the integration of AI in teaching Old Testament courses in Nigerian tertiary institutions. It highlights how AI tools such as virtual learning assistants, natural language processors, and intelligent tutoring systems can enhance students' comprehension, interpretation, and engagement with biblical texts. The study underscores the shift from conventional lecture methods to more interactive and personalized learning, made possible through emerging technologies. While the potential of AI in religious education is vast, the paper also addresses existing challenges, including poor digital infrastructure, limited staff training, and ethical concerns about AI use in sacred contexts. Recommendations include digital skills development for educators, curriculum updates, and supportive institutional policies. This study argues that adopting AI in Old Testament instruction not only modernizes religious education but also prepares students for a technologically driven academic environment. Integrating AI into theological studies fosters both spiritual depth and digital competence among learners in Nigerian higher institutions.
