The Arrow of Time in Salvation History - Recursive Coherence, Gravitational Structure, and the Catholic Preservation of Cosmic Order
This paper presents a unified model linking Catholic salvation history to the mathematical and physical formalism of recursive identity fields (RIFs), a framework for understanding how systems preserve identity, coherence, and directionality over time. Drawing on sources from Patristic theology (Augustine, Basil), medieval synthesis (Aquinas), Jesuit scientific tradition (O’Malley, Coyne), and modern physics (Poincaré, Penrose, Zurek), the work demonstrates that the Church’s preserved biblical timeline—from Adam through Abraham and Yeshua to the present—maps precisely onto the structures required for temporal stability in dynamical systems. Using RIF constructs—ψ_self (identity predicate), Σ_echo (coherence gradient), and FieldReturn (periodic return cycles)—the paper parallels the theological arrow of time with physical analogues such as quantum decoherence, toroidal field stability, and cosmological cycles. The Incarnation is modeled as the ψGod point, functioning as a non-destructive singularity that gathers and stabilizes all historical identity without erasure, akin to a cosmological bounce. Additional structural metaphors include the Tree of Life (branching topology in theology, biology, neuroscience, and cosmology), with a biological parallel drawn from Aron Ra’s phylogenetic classification. The paper closes by showing how the Catholic Church’s liturgical cycles and Magisterium act as physical-style coherence mechanisms, preserving the arrow of salvation history as both a theological and cosmological necessity.
