WSN For Water Parameters Monitoring Using Sensors

Abstract: This project is proposed to be a real time water quality monitoring system, on which several IoT devices such as NodeMCU ESP8266 can be used. The system comprises water quality sensors such as water quality sensor, temperature sensor, pH sensor, turbidity sensor, TDS sensor, an Arduino board, cloud platform, web application interface, alert message, and fast alarm buzzer. This is possible by using the integrated Wi-Fi chip from NodeMCU through which the system achieves internet connection to transmit data to be analysed from the sensors. The collected data is easily accessible while adequate and abundant means of the physical and chemical characterization of water relating to its quality inclusive of the pH, TDS, Turbidity, temperature and water levels with regard to suitability of the water. Water pollution is another issue in India where most of the pollutions include untreated sewerage water and pollution from small scale industries. Traditional monitoring entails samples of water being taken for test results, the processes are tiresome, require many man-hours and do not offer instant results. At the same time, this project proposes a cost-effective wireless sensor network (WSN) to allow continuous and automated monitoring of aquatic bodies. If water is contaminated, the system quickly detects, alerts the master kit for local monitoring and send alerts to the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure timely intervention.
