The AGI Switch and the Unseen Integrity
This reflective essay discusses the growing influence of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the ethical questions surrounding the human agents behind its development. It argues that while decision-making at the highest levels of leadership is visible, the deeper and often overlooked determinant of AGI’s moral trajectory lies in the integrity of the implementers—the engineers, curators, and operators who ensure systems function ethically. The essay draws parallels with software development practices, highlighting how even under strict oversight, small lapses or inconsistencies can lead to major consequences. Ultimately, it calls for a deeper cultural commitment to integrity at all layers of AGI’s construction. Keywords: AGI, ethics, integrity, implementers, AI governance, technology ethics, software development, AI responsibility, sociotechnical systems, AGI alignment
