Two Orissan Poetic Pilgrims: Bibhu Padhi and Niranjan Mohanty
This paper brings the two Orissan poetic pilgrims—Bibhu Padhi and Niranjan Mohanty to light without proving their superiority or inferiority at the cost of each other as both of them possess their own unique features. Both the poets Padhi and Mohanty go to the world of memories which remind them their roots, family, past, loss of dear ones and the unforgettable moments. Both the poets Padhi and Mohanty have their own viewpoints regarding their attitude to God and prayers. Both have some doubts and so, interrogate but their faith reside in the ultimate power. Both use ‘Symbols’ as techniques. What ‘Sea’ is to Padhi, is ‘Tiger’ to Mohanty. Both of them feel the very heart-beats of the Orissan culture and depict its very image in their poetry. The poet in Padhi talks of humanity and recommends simplicity and innocence in life while Mohanty surprises the reader by his scholarship and the poetic sensibility.
