Exploring the Impact of RDM Across Domains - Tales from the NFDI4DS Speedboat Projects
The National Research Data Infrastructure for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (NFDI4DS) consortium supports the systematic collection, management, and reuse of research data in the domains of Data Science (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). As part of its mission, NFDI4DS has initiated and funded a series of "Speedboat Projects" that serve as focused case studies demonstrating the practical utility and impact of research data management (RDM) services and methodologies . This paper presents an overview of selected Speedboat Projects, highlighting their diverse application areas and the ways in which they leverage RDM best practices. The projects include: ChildLens (childhood development research with video data), Automated Systematic Literature Reviews, Generation of Synthetic Expert-Validated Electronic Health Records Datasets, Annotating ClimateCheck (a dataset of social media claims about climate change supported by scholarly evidence), and SciVQA (Scientific Visual Question Answering). These case studies illustrate how domain-specific RDM strategies can support reproducibility, data accessibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration in DS and AI research.
