Structural Evaluation of Tall Buildings Using Ferroconcrete and Steel-Timber Hybrid Systems under Lateral Loads in ETABS
In a densely populated and rapidly urbanizing country like India, the construction of multistorey buildings isessential to meet increasing housing and infrastructure demands. These structures are often subjected to lateral forces, whichact horizontally and can significantly affect their performance. Such forces primarily include wind loads and seismic activity, both of which can cause structural deflection, instability, or even failure if not adequately addressed. To ensure buildings canwithstand these lateral effects, advanced structural analysis tools like ETABS are employed. ETABS is a comprehensivesoftware used for modeling, analysis, and design of buildings in compliance with national and international codes. It providesaccurate simulations of how structures respond to various loading conditions, making it ideal for evaluating complex buildings.Hybrid structural systems, which combine different construction materials, are gaining popularity for enhancing structuralperformance. One common and effective hybrid combination is steel and concrete, which leverages the tensile strength of steeland the compressive strength of concrete. Steel is especially favoured for its high load-carrying capacity and fast constructioncapabilities, and when integrated with other materials such as timber or ferrocement, it helps overcome limitations inherent toindividual materials. This study investigates a G+7 storey steel-timber hybrid building reinforced with ferroconcrete (wiremesh embedded in concrete). A three-dimensional static analysis is performed using ETABS to assess the building’s structuralbehavior. The study focuses on key parameters such as maximum nodal displacement, bending moment, shear force, axialforce, and storey drift to evaluate the effectiveness of the hybrid system under lateral loading conditions
