The Metadata Structure for the Heliophysics Software Search Interface

Abstract The Heliophysics Software Search Interface (HSSI) is a currently funded effort to develop a search interface for software in Heliophysics. The HSSI will be an intuitive and capable search interface for users to discover software relevant to Heliophysics across multiple programming languages, software categories, and other properties of interest. This work will describe our efforts to develop the metadata structure needed to support that interface. The desire is to align our software metadata structure with CodeMeta’s recommendations to support their and others efforts to create an international software search capability that stretches beyond science. Additionally, the metadata structure also aims to include the fields needed to support FAIR4RS (FAIR for research software) capabilities in a general sense and be interoperable with the DataCite metadata structure used by GitHub repositories. We will describe the current status of the metadata structure and plans moving forward to support the HSSI effort.
