How slang is important: Background and Perspectives on Uzbek and American Youth Communication

Abstract: Slang plays a significant role in the digital communication of youth worldwide. This study explores the importance of slang in shaping identity, social belonging, and expression among Uzbek and American youth, particularly on social media platforms. Drawing from linguistic theory and sociocultural observations, this article presents comparative insights on the historical background, cultural context, and communicative functions of slang in both societies. Findings suggest that while the origins and structures of slang differ, its role as a dynamic and expressive linguistic tool is equally vital among Uzbek and American youth.
