CHALLENGES IN CATEGORIZING LITERARY ARCHETYPES
The article examines the main challenges in classifying literary archetypes within modern literary studies. Drawing on the contributions of C.G. Jung, Y.M. Meletinsky, J. Beebe, M. Mark and C. Pearson, Y.V. Pikalov, and other scholars, it analyzes the methodological, semantic, and contextual complexities that hinder the creation of a universal typology. Particular attention is paid to the limitations of psychocentric and schematic models, as well as to the necessity of integrative approaches combining psychoanalysis, semiotics, cultural studies, and narrative theory. The article argues that any classification of archetypes must account for their dynamic functions, intertextual variations, and cultural embeddedness, proposing that flexible and hybrid frameworks are essential for a deeper understanding of archetypal representations in literature.
