The Influence of Website Aesthetics on Online Shopping Behavior: A Conceptual Review
Abstract: Website aesthetics play a pivotal role in shaping online consumer behaviour, influencing perceptions of credibility, trust, usability, and purchase intention. As e-commerce continues to expand, understanding the psychological and behavioural implications of visual design becomes increasingly important. This conceptual review critically examines existing literature across disciplines to explore how aesthetic elements—such as layout, colour schemes, typography, imagery, and overall visual appeal—affect consumer attitudes and decision-making processes in digital shopping environments. Drawing from theoretical models and empirical research, the study identifies core aesthetic dimensions that contribute to positive user experiences and foster engagement. Furthermore, the paper underscores significant research gaps, particularly regarding cultural influences, personalization, and the dynamic nature of user preferences in the evolving digital economy. By synthesizing insights from design theory, consumer psychology, and e-commerce studies, this review offers a foundation for future research and practical strategies aimed at enhancing website aesthetics to improve consumer satisfaction and drive online purchasing behaviour.
