Umbilical Cord Hernia (UCH) Accompanied by Ileum Prolapse in Patent Omphalomesenteric Duct (POMD): A Rare Case Report

Introduction: Patent omphalomesenteric duct (POMD) and umbilical cord hernia (UCH) are rare individually condition, their simultaneous occurrence is extremely uncommon and poses significant diagnostic and management challenges. Case Report: A male neonate presented with multiple congenital anomalies, including umbilical cord hernia, cleft lip and palate, left-hand polydactyly and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) which was also found from echocardiography. Radiological investigations suggested associated complications such as pneumonia. During emergency laparotomy, a prolapsed ileum connected to a persistent omphalomesenteric duct was identified. Discussion: The combination of POMD and UCH may require coordinated resuscitative measures, precise surgical intervention, and vigilant postoperative care to manage both respiratory and gastrointestinal challenges. Conclusion: Early recognition and a coordinated surgical approach are crucial to minimize complications and improve neonatal outcomes.
