From Preparatory Year to Workforce Integration: Tracking Saudi EFL Graduates' Career Success in Alignment with National Economic Goals

This study explores how well preparatory year EFL programs in Saudi Arabia equip graduates for the demands of the national job market in alignment with Vision 2030. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes alumni surveys and employer interviews, the research follows the career trajectories and perceptions of 250 EFL graduates from three Saudi universities between 2015 and 2025. While most graduates view their EFL preparation as beneficial for overall career development, the study reveals distinct English proficiency requirements across key sectors such as healthcare, engineering, and technology. It highlights the need to integrate STEM content, industry-focused communication skills, and technology-enhanced instruction into EFL curricula. Recommendations include curriculum redesign, stronger university-industry partnerships, and targeted professional training to better align language education with Saudi Arabia’s workforce development goals.
