The Role of Macro and Micro Proportions in Smile Design: An Essential Component of Harmony and Beauty – A Review
ABSTRACT Macro proportions are very important for grin design because they look at the big picture interactions between the teeth and the face. These proportions include the alignment of the midlines of the face, the symmetry of the smile arc, the presentation of the incisors, and the buccal corridor. All of these things affect how people see a beautiful and balanced smile. Digital tools and AI-driven diagnostic procedures have made macro analysis more accurate, allowing doctors to tailor treatment to each person's unique facial structure instead of just using traditional idealized ratios like the golden proportion. This patient-centered approach improves both functional results and aesthetic pleasure. Macro esthetics also help with the basic layout before fine-tuning the micro-esthetic features, which shows how important they are in the hierarchy of grin design planning.
