The Role of Professional Development in Enhancing Educational Management: Perspectives of School Leaders

Professional development (PD) plays a vital role in enhancing educational management by equipping school leaders with essential knowledge, skills, and leadership capabilities. As education systems globally continue to evolve, PD programs must adapt to address the diverse and shifting needs of school leadership. This study explores the status of PD in various international and local contexts, highlighting common gaps and challenges faced by educational leaders. In countries like the United States, Australia, and China, PD often lacks alignment with actual leadership demands, particularly in rural or marginalized areas. Similarly, in the Philippines—specifically in CALABARZON, Region 5, Cagayan, and the San Roque District of Davao City—school leaders encounter significant barriers to accessing relevant and tailored PD programs. These limitations hinder their ability to lead effectively, especially in areas such as inclusive education, community engagement, and technological integration. The study emphasizes the urgent need for context-specific, targeted PD initiatives that support school leaders in addressing local educational challenges and advancing student success.
