Static Performance of Finite Hydrodynamic Spiral Journal Bearing Operating with Lubricant Containing Nano particles under Turbulent Flow

This paper presents, the static study of combined effects of turbulence and viscosity variation in hydrodynamic spiral journal bearing effective under Nano lubricants. Lubricant viscosity is affected the load resonant capacity of journal bearing. The performance of the bearing is influenced by the % of Nano particles added in the base lubricants. Based on this modified Reynolds equation is derived for a bearing system, operating under turbulent flow condition. To obtain a closed form solution, FDM is considered. The pressure distribution and load carrying capacity are theoretically evaluated using a modified Reynolds equation for nanoparticle concentrations. Results reveal an increase in load carrying capacity of journal bearing using nanoparticle lubricant additive as compared to plain oils without nanoparticle additive.
