Sustainable Architecture in Oman: Integrating Heritage, Climate, and Modern Design

This study explores the evolution of sustainable architecture in Oman, focusing on how traditional building knowledge, climate conscious design strategies, and carefully regulated low-rise development are shaping the country’s urban future in line with Oman Vision 2040. Drawing on comparative energy performance data, assessments of material life cycles, and detailed case studies such as the Oman Botanic Garden and the Sustainable City in Yiti it highlights clear trends: a steady drop in building energy intensity, a wider adoption of locally sourced materials, and façades that remain faithful to cultural identity. Based on these insights, the paper outlines policy recommendations aimed at strengthening energy codes, encouraging renewable energy integration, and advancing climate resilient urban planning across the nation.
