Comparative Study of Crude and Microsuspension Forms of Ananas comosus Fruit Peel in Spasmolytic Activity
This study investigates the spasmolytic effects of the Ethyl acetate Extract of Ananas comosus FruitPeel (EAFP) and its microsuspension (EAFP MS) using an isolated chick ileum model. EAFP was preparedvia Soxhlet extraction, yielding 8.1% w/w, and subjected to phytochemical analysis, revealing the presenceof alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, and other bioactive compounds. EAFP MS was formulated toenhance bioavailability, as demonstrated by its uniform particle size and improved dissolution profile. Thespasmolytic activity was evaluated by analyzing dose-response curves for acetylcholine in the presence ofEAFP, EAFP MS, and atropine. The microsuspension exhibited superior spasmolytic effects, significantlyreducing acetylcholine-induced contractions. These findings suggest that EAFP MS could serve as apotential therapeutic agent for managing gastrointestinal spasms.
