FireSat: A New Era in Wildfire Detection and Environmental Monitoring
FireSat is a satellite launched by Muon Space, a U.S.-based company specializing in Earth observation technologies focused on climate and natural disaster monitoring. It was successfully deployed in June 2025 aboard a SpaceX rocket, as part of a multi-satellite launch mission. FireSat is the first satellite in a dedicated constellation designed for the early detection of wildfires. The project is funded through a combination of private investment and support from U.S. public environmental and climate agencies, with an initial investment of approximately USD 25 million covering the development, manufacturing, and launch of this first unit. FireSat marks a significant step toward faster global responses to environmental crises, especially those linked to global warming and the intensification of extreme events.
