Mechanical Characterization of TiC, CNT Reinforced with Aluminium 7075 Metal Matrix Composites at the Nanoscale.
Composite materials have emerged as compelling alternatives to traditional metals due to their desirable attributes, such as chemical stability, exceptional strength-to-weight ratios, adaptable processing, and the potential for tailored characteristics. Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) are now widely adopted across various engineering disciplines, as they offer enhanced wear resistance, favorable strength-to-weight ratios, relatively efficient production capabilities, and the possibility of reduced manufacturing costs. MMCs leverage the inherent advantages of metals while incorporating advanced reinforcements, providing innovative solutions for demanding, high-performance industrial applications. Aluminum metal matrix composites are particularly emerging as prominent materials in the automotive and aerospace industries, owing to their low weight and high specific rigidity. This study examines the mechanical behavior of aluminum 7075 reinforced with titanium carbide and carbon nanotubes. The composites were fabricated using the stir casting technique, and their tensile and compressive strengths were rigorously evaluated in accordance with ASTM standards. The results demonstrate significant improvements in mechanical properties as the content of TiC and CNT increases, highlighting the immense potential of these composites for challenging applications.
