THE ROLE OF THE SUFFIX "-ATION" AS A WORD-FORMING ELEMENT IN THE EXPANSION OF ENGLISH VOCABULARY

The article holds both theoretical and practical significance. In my opinion, at a timewhen there is a great demand for learning English in Azerbaijan and when English is being taught inseveral academic institutions, the research we have conducted on lexical units formed by suffixes—particularly the suffix “-ation”—is of considerable practical importance. The practical relevance ofthe article is further highlighted by the alphabetical selection of lexical units formed with the suffix“-ation” from English dictionaries and the specification of their expressions. I believe that compilingthese lexical units formed by the “-ation” suffix into a glossary, along with their Azerbaijaniequivalents, aims to serve as a supplementary resource for learners of English in Azerbaijan. In thisregard, I have taken into account the practical value of the article and have endeavored to ensure itscompleteness both from a theoretical and practical perspective. The article also aims to carry out extensive research in the field of comparing grammatical andlinguistic aspects common to both languages. It is well known that English and Azerbaijani belongto different linguistic families: English is an analytic language, while Azerbaijani is part of thesynthetic language group. Comparative analysis of these two languages makes it possible to revealtheir similarities and differences, identify linguistic universals, and generalize scientific theses. Myobjective has been to take a critical approach to existing scholarly views, to study previous researchon this topic, and to analyze the opinions of linguists working in both English and Azerbaijani. Afterbecoming familiar with the material in both languages, it becomes clear that no other scientificmethod could be effectively used in such comparative linguistic research. Given the differences inlanguage structures, research approaches, and scholarly viewpoints, the investigation of theseaspects, drawing general conclusions, and attaining new findings require scientific innovation andoriginality.
