A women empowerment: A need of an hour

There is a bi-directional association between economic development and women’s empowerment defined as enlightening the ability of women to access the constituents of growth—in particular health, education, earning opportunities, rights, and political contribution. In one direction, progress alone can play a major part in driving down disparity between men and women; in the other direction, resuming discrimination against women can, as Amartya Sen has powerfully argued, and hinder growth. Empowerment can, in other words, accelerate expansion. Objectives of the Study: i) To understand the concept of women empowerment. ii) To study the effect of women empowerment on women crime rate in India. Hypothesis of the Study: H0: Women empowerment has not significantly reduce women crime rate in India. H1: Women empowerment has significantly reduce women crime rate in India. Primary data was collected from 200 students of different colleges of Mumbai University through google form. Convenience sampling method was used to analysis the data. Secondary data was collected from research papers. Research scholar has concluded that Women empowerment has significantly reduced crime rates in India as 52.50% respondents were strongly agreed or agreed. H1 was fail to reject. Research scholar has concluded that Women empowerment has not significantly reduced rape cases in India as 57.50% respondents were strongly disagreed or disagreed. H0 was fail to reject. Research paper will be useful to Government, students and research scholars to do further research. Time and money were main constraints. Primary data was collected from 200 respondents to analysis and elucidated data. Empirically, there is a strong correlation between economic development and women’s legal rights, in areas as diverse as property rights, access to land, access to bank loans, violence against women, abortion policy, etc. Doepke and Tertilt (2009) show a robust negative correlation of 0.4 or higher across countries between the lack of rights and GDP per capita. Historically, the expansion of economic rights to women in the US and Europe preceded their access to political rights (Doepke and Tertilt, 2009, Fernandez, 2009).

Abstract

There is a bi-directional association between economic development and women’s empowerment defined as enlightening the ability of women to access the constituents of growth—in particular health, education, earning opportunities, rights, and political contribution. In one direction, progress alone can play a major part in driving down disparity between men and women; in the other direction, resuming discrimination against women can, as Amartya Sen has powerfully argued, and hinder growth. Empowerment can, in other words, accelerate expansion.
