The Pivotal Role of Education in Human Capital Formation
Abstract: Human capital, the stock of knowledge, skills, competencies, and other attributes embedded in individuals, is a critical driver of economic growth, social progress, and individual well-being. Education, in its broadest sense, is a fundamental component of human capital formation. This paper explores the multifaceted role of education in building human capital, examining its impact on individual productivity, economic development, social mobility, and overall societal advancement. We analyze the various mechanisms through which education influences skill development, knowledge acquisition, and the cultivation of crucial cognitive and non-cognitive abilities. Furthermore, we address some of the challenges in ensuring equitable access to quality education and discuss policy implications for maximizing the contribution of education to human capital formation in the 21st century.
