THE IMPORTANCE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM (TOUR GUIDES AS AN EXAMPLE)
This article examines the crucial role of foreign language education in enhancing the quality of tourism services in Uzbekistan. With tourism rapidly growing globally and in Uzbekistan, effective communication between tour guides and international visitors is paramount to a positive tourist experience. The study, based on real-life examples, observations, and comparisons with international best practices, employs a descriptive approach to analyze the relationship between language proficiency and tourism quality. Results indicate that strong foreign language skills significantly improve tourist satisfaction, facilitate problem-solving, and contribute to tour guides' professional growth and increased earnings. The discussion highlights the pervasive language barrier faced by non-Uzbek/Russian speaking tourists and emphasizes the particular importance of English as a global lingua franca, while also advocating for proficiency in other languages to cater to diverse visitor demographics. Challenges in current language education, such as overemphasis on grammar, limited exposure to native speakers, and resource disparities in rural areas, are identified. The article proposes practical solutions including communication-based training, leveraging digital tools, fostering collaboration between educational institutions and tourism companies, and government support for language courses. Ultimately, investing in foreign language education for tour guides is presented as a strategic imperative for Uzbekistan to elevate its tourism sector, foster cultural exchange, and boost its national economy
