Addressing Global Energy Transition Challenges with Modular TSTM Solutions 2.1

This paper presents Version 2.1 of the Tubular Storage Tank Module (TSTM) architecture — a globally scalable solution to critical energy transition bottlenecks such as curtailment, redispatch losses, grid congestion, and interconnection queue paralysis. Building on a prior AI-supported evaluation for European applications, this extended analysis introduces both land-based TSTM systems for seasonal renewable energy storage and maritime TSTM-M modules for geopolitically flexible gas logistics. New use cases include offshore wind integration, stranded gas field activation, and — newly added in this version — a strategic scenario for Saudi Arabia, where TSTM enables large-scale gas export and hydrogen production without water or LNG infrastructure. The paper quantifies regional curtailment patterns in China, the US, and Europe (totaling over 12,500 TWh/year), details techno-economic advantages of TSTM over conventional solutions, and outlines implementation pathways for critical energy hubs. Four conceptual figures illustrate key system components and use cases. The paper calls for pilot projects in high-curtailment zones worldwide — from Troll A and the Baltic Sea to NEOM and the Gulf of Mexico — to validate and scale this architecture.
