Masrur Rock Temple Complex of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh
The Masrur Group of Temples, located in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, is the only monolithic rock-cut temple complex in Northern India. Dating back to the early medieval period, this sandstone structure exhibits remarkable architectural craftsmanship and historical significance. First documented in 1875, the site suffered significant damage in the 1905 earthquake. A detailed survey was conducted in 1913 by British officials, shedding light on its architectural and cultural heritage. Local legend associates the temple with the Pandavas, who are believed to have attempted constructing a staircase to heaven, a feature that remains unfinished within the complex.
