Contextualising Ecological Studies and Environmental Thought: Histories, Theories and Posthuman Future
Abstract The present work, ‘Contextualising Ecology and Environmental Thought: Histories, Theories, and Posthuman Futures’ is an attempt to explore the intersection of environmental history and ecological futures through interdisciplinary lenses. It examines how historical narratives of human-environment interaction shape contemporary ecological thought and influence future possibilities for sustainability and environmental justice. Drawing from historiography, ecology, geography, and political theory, the article investigates the role of historical processes—such as colonization, industrialization, and ecological degradation—in shaping current environmental crises. By analysing case studies and theoretical frameworks from diverse disciplines, the article proposes new methodologies for integrating environmental histories with forward-looking ecological practices. The present work argues for a more inclusive, interdisciplinary approach to understand and address the global ecological challenges, emphasizing the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration in reimagining sustainable futures through a historical perspective.
