Tourism Digital Project: The Transition from Traditional Maps to Interactive Digital Mapping Technologies in Tourism Sector

Tourism involves the temporary movement of individuals or groups away from their usual place ofresidence to engage in leisure activities at various destinations. During their travels, tourists often rely onmaps for navigation and route planning. Traditionally, maps have been essential tools for travelers; however, their functionality and presentation were once limited. Today, digital maps have become integral to thetourism industry, offering a wide range of advantages. These maps not only enhance a tourist’sunderstanding of a destination but also provide interactive and visually engaging experiences. Digitalmapping tools enable businesses to display geographic information clearly and effectively on digitalplatforms. For instance, an interactive digital map allows visitors to explore expansive attraction sites, highlighting key points of interest such as hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, accommodations, and diningoptions. These dynamic maps serve as virtual gateways, enticing users to embark on real-world adventures.By integrating advanced features such as pop-up animations, 360-degree images and videos, embeddedGoogle Maps, and interactive quizzes, the interactive digital map of Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangoroffers an enriched user experience. The aim is to transform how tourists engage with the region, therebypromoting tourism and deepening the emotional and educational connection between visitors and the area'snatural beauty. This project exemplifies how cutting-edge technology can be leveraged to elevate the tourismexperience, making it more accessible, immersive, and memorable. A total of 235 respondents participatedin the evaluation of the interactive map. Data collected through surveys were analyzed using SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) to assess user satisfaction and interaction. The findings revealedthat respondents expressed a high level of satisfaction with the map's features, functionality, and design. Inthe current digital age, such tools significantly enhance the way local tourism information is delivered, shifting from static formats to interactive digital experiences. These maps serve as powerful platforms foronline geographic exploration, facilitating navigation, education, and user engagement.
