Raunkiaer throwing method
The analysis of weeds in a field provides valuable insight into its biodiversity component. The Raunkiaer method for weed sampling involves randomly placing a fixed-dimension frame (iron or wood), either 0.50 m or 0.25 m square, within the field. Within each frame, the species present are identified and counted. The frame, placed on vegetated ground, represents a sample of the existing plant biodiversity. The number of placements (or "throws") can be: ● Indefinite, continuing until no new species are encountered.● Predefined, with a set number of throws to ensure consistency. After we have counted the species we can use the “Shannon Diversity Index” that is a way to measure the diversity of species in a community.
