The Sensorimotor Studio : A Body-Mind Supportive Therapeutic Space

The Sensorimotor Studio: A Body-Mind Supportive Therapeutic Space is an original therapeutic concept and practice-based framework developed by Irit Shochat in 2024. It integrates foundational elements from the Open Studio approach and Sensorimotor Art Therapy to facilitate self-expression, self-regulation, psychophysical synchrony, and integrative therapeutic processes. This framework is structured around a set of principles that guide the therapeutic approach and the physical arrangement of the studio space. The spatial design, materials, and atmosphere are purposefully aligned with these principles to support embodied experience, client autonomy, and psychophysical engagement within the therapeutic process. This concept offers a coherent, body–mind–oriented framework for therapeutic practice rooted in both theory and clinical intervention.
