VALUABLE Report on social impact assessment
(Draft pending on the EC approval) As part of the VALUABLE Project, a comprehensive social impact assessment was conducted using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative analysis focused on a key indicator for evaluating social impact: the number of jobs potentially generated through the implementation of VALUABLE process. This assessment considered the expected market growth and the projected capacity of the technology to create employment. While preliminary findings suggest a positive trend in job creation, the analysis also highlighted the need for further detailed investigation into possible job displacement effects, especially in cases where conventional processes may be replaced (i.e., total indirect job creation related to biochemistry vs conventional chemistry). Regional differences were also noted, indicating that the impact on indirect employment may vary depending on the local context. The qualitative analysis involved the design and distribution of targeted questionnaires addressed to four main audiences: the general public, public institutions, the VALUABLE consortium members, and external stakeholders. These questionnaires were disseminated through multiple channels, and the responses were thoroughly analysed to interpret perceptions and expectations related to the project. The results revealed a generally favourable view of the VALUABLE initiative, with broad support for its environmental, social, and economic objectives. Participants highlighted the importance of sustainability, innovation, and ethical practices, while also underlining areas where additional communication and policy alignment may be beneficial. Together, these two approaches provide a multidimensional view of the VALUABLE Project’s potential social impact and offer valuable insights to guide its future implementation and stakeholder engagement strategies.
