ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS: An Exegetical Essay on Galatians 3:26-29 and the Fulfillment of the Promise
Abstract: ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS: An Exegetical Essay on Galatians 3:26-29 and the Fulfillment of the PromiseThis exegetical study explores Galatians 3:26-29, focusing on Paul’s declaration that "all are one in Christ Jesus" (πάντες ὑμεῖς ἕν ἐστε ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ) and its implications for the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham. By analyzing the historical, cultural, and theological dimensions of Paul’s argument, this essay examines the unity of believers—regardless of ethnicity, social status, or gender—as central to the gospel message. Special attention is given to key Greek terms such as υἱοί Θεοῦ ("sons of God") in verse 26, ἐνδύω ("to put on") in verse 27, and σπέρμα Ἀβραάμ ("seed of Abraham") in verse 29, which reveal Paul’s theological framework regarding identity and inheritance in Christ. Additionally, Galatians 3:8, where Paul asserts that Scripture foresaw the justification of the Gentiles through faith (προϊδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γραφὴ), is examined in relation to the broader Abrahamic promise. This study also considers the socio-religious tensions between Jewish and Gentile believers in Galatia, demonstrating how Paul’s message radically redefines covenant membership. Ultimately, this essay affirms the centrality of Christ in unifying believers and highlights the transformative power of the gospel in overcoming divisions, fulfilling God’s redemptive promise through faith in Christ.
