சஙகம கடடம பணகள / Women as Portrayed by Sangam
In the Tamil society that values femininity, women have been the main focus of literature throughout time. From the time of “Tolkappiyam” to the present day, the dignity of women has been expressed in a noble manner. Sangam literature is full of facts about various women such as heroines, heroine’s friends, nurses and heroes. On the one hand, literature has distinguished women as poets, warriors full of bravery and teachers who teach virtue to the king and on the other hand, they have done their work as wives worthy of their husbands and mothers who cherish home. On keeping this in mind, this article aims to portray the women shown by Sangam and explore their characteristics. The article also elaborates on “Tholkappiyam” and Sangam women from the literary point of view of women. The songs of the Sangam women poets, such as Adimandiyar, have brought out their valour, their bravery through “Tholkappiyam” and emphasised the role of Thalaivi, Nattrai, Thozhi, Sevili, and shown in Sangam literature.
