58. Bridging Tradition and Technology: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in India through ICT with Reflections from Thirukkural and SDGs
This research article explores how bridging tradition and technology through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can empower women entrepreneurs in India. While the country has made notable progress in gender equality and women's empowerment, women entrepreneurs still face significant barriers such as limited access to resources, entrenched gender biases, restrictive social norms, and inadequate networking opportunities. ICT emerges as a transformative enabler, bridging these gaps by providing access to vital information, wider markets, collaborative networks, and inclusive financial services. Grounded in the timeless ethical teachings of Thirukkural and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), this study examines the potential of ICT to create a more equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem. It analyses initiatives, challenges, and strategic approaches for enhancing ICT adoption among women entrepreneurs in India. By integrating traditional wisdom with modern technological solutions, this research highlights pathways to unlock the potential of women entrepreneurs, drive sustainable economic growth, and foster a more inclusive and empowered society.
