UTILIZATION OF KAGAN APPROACH IN ENHANCING THE ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF FIRST YEAR STUDENTS OF BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY
The primary goal of this research was to determine if the Kagan approach and its structures helped the students improve their oral communication skills such as grammar, vocabulary, language, and pronunciation. This study was carried out at Batangas State University in Malvar, Batangas. Moreover, the theory of Kagan Structure and Theory of Connectivism served as the framework for this study. In this study, quasi-experimental research methodology was utilized. The sampling method used was purposive sampling to identify the First Year BS Psychology students as the study respondents. In addition, the Cambridge English Proficiency Test was chosen as the research instrument. Also, the t-test was utilized in this study for independent samples at the .05 level of significance. Moreover, the pretest and posttest results were analyzed statistically to see whether the learners exposed to the Kagan approach and its structures performed better than those who were not. In addition, the Kagan structures used for the experimental group were Mingle-Pair-Share, Round Robin, Charades, and Guess the Fib. Additionally, the study proposed an action plan entitled Project iLOCK or Project on Improving Learners’ Oral Communication skills through Kagan structures. This project included enrichment activities to help the learners cope with the areas they were struggling with, specifically grammar, vocabulary, language, and pronunciation.
