abstract Context: Human activities are increasingly exacerbating disaster risks such as landslides in the landscape. While landslides are well known in eastern DR Congo in general and the Kivu region in particular, this is not the case in the western part of the country. So, we wanted to conduct a cartographic inventory of landslides and know their factors in an area close to the region of Kinshasa. Method: The techniques of photo-interpretation of satellite images using Google Earth Pro and Landsat 8 were used to conduct the cartographic inventory of landslides, which were coupled with field surveys using the Garmin 62s GPS. The land use map was obtained using the supervised classification method. Results : Eighteen landslides were mapped in the Kwango Bridge area, located southeast of Kinshasa. Based on this, a susceptibility map of the area to landslides was developed. The factors that triggere these landslides are of two types: either they are linked to human activities (runoff produced by National Road No.1, presence of artisanal quarries in the foothills), or they are natural because of the hilly topography. Conclusion: This inventory is a start in understanding anthropization and the development of landslides in the Kwango Bridge area. The landslide susceptibility map takes into account known natural and anthropogenic predisposition factors. This map is a valuable decision-making tool in an area where agricultural activities are increasingly developing to provide the city of Kinshasa.
