The Main Directions of Health Care Reform in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan, a landlocked Central Asian country, has undergone significant political, economic, and social changes since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. One of the key sectors requiring deep transformation has been the health care system. The reforms in Kyrgyzstan’s health care sector have been driven by the need to improve access, equity, efficiency, and quality of health services in the context of limited resources. Over the past three decades, the government of Kyrgyzstan, in collaboration with international organizations, has launched multiple reform programs aimed at creating a more resilient, people-centered, and financially sustainable health system.
