Prevalence of Psychopathology of Children and Adolescents in Foster Care Homes in Mexico City: An Exploratory Analytic Study
Backgroud This exploratory study assessed the prevalence of anxiety and depression among institutionalized children and adolescents in Mexico City. Using validated instruments (Children's Depression Inventory and Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale), data from 38 participants aged 6-17 years revealed 31.6% with depressive symptoms and 55.3% with moderate anxiety. Gender differences were significant in social anxiety and restlessness (p<0.05). A moderate correlation between anxiety and depression was observed (r=0.45, p<0.05), and cluster analysis identified a subgroup with high anxiety and mild depression. The findings emphasize the need for gender-sensitive, integrated interventions and further research into the mental health of vulnerable populations.
