Territorial development in the post-capitalist epoch: the prospects of urbanistic culture
The article critically analyzes the prospects of urbanization in the context of the crisis of capitalism, neoliberalism and related concepts of megapolis as a prototype of a spatial political-economic model for the society of the future. The introduction definespost-capitalism as a discourse of future that differs from the historically known forms of both capitalism and socialism. The article notes the relationship of urbanization process with industrial capitalism and the dependence of theories of urbanization on thepolitical economy discourse of capitalism. The first part demonstrates the drawbacks of the megalopolis and the actual decline in the credibility of the idea of the megalopolis as a model of the urban culture of the future. The author claims a growing interest inalternative models of urbanization and agglomeration models in particular. The article emphasizes the special importance of such models for the territorial development of Russia. The second part presents an example of successful development of a small townthat has, due to geographical specifics of the region, a limited opportunity of development for the increase in territory of the agglomeration network and for the formation of conurbation links. The author notes the importance of socio-cultural factors for the development of small towns: cultural and historical memory, urban folklore and corporate identity. The author suggests a hypothesis about the critical importance of the concentration of economic and symbolic capital within the city corporation for the successful development of small towns.
